Colorful Microbe Art Tote Bag - Featuring Unique Artwork from UNC Biology Students

This tote bag features artwork from a UNC Biology student as part of a BioArt assignment. The proceeds generated from purchasing this item will go to fundraising for the Department of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Fundraising helps the department upkeep our teaching and laboratory spaces, equipment, resources, events, etc. to serve UNC Biology students and further their education.

This artwork was created by Henry G., Class of 2028, and is titled "A Neon Single-Celled Spectrum." The description of the piece is below:

"I chose to draw three protists, amoeba, euglena and paramecium, due to their strikingly unique features as unicellular organisms. I thought they would be exciting to depict in an abstract way, emphasizing parallels between specific organelles and generally recognizable attributes (like making the oral groove of the paramecium and pseudopodia of amoeba look like mouths) to make their function apparent. I decided to represent my protists with digital neon watercolor drawings to emphasize their alien appearance and make them stand out against the darkbackground. The digital tools helped me achieve this effect because neon paint is extremely hard to find, and I could erase any mistakes I made."

Care instructions:

- Remove all items from the bag before cleaning. Suggested to pretreat visible stains with stain remover. Mix warm water with laundry detergent and clean the bag with terry washcloth or a soft bristle brush. Let the bag air dry.
